And welcome to the season finale here on the Slackest Talk podcast of season number three.
And man, I love talking to you all, man, I hate to say season finale, man, but you know what I'm saying? We'll be right back, we'll bounce right back. But anyway, it's a blessing to be here.
It's a blessing to even have a season finale, you know what I'm saying? I look at it like that.
As always, man, thank you all for tuning in. You all know what it is. You all could have been anywhere in the world, but you all right here with me. I appreciate that.
Time is rolling man. Time is week.
We're in the last week. Well, I should say, I'm sorry, last couple of days of the month of November, man. We coming up on December, you know what I'm saying?
We heading into a new year.
Quick announcements, real quick.
You all know the situation with the schedule.
Every December, your boy takes off, you know what I'm saying? In mother's December at the end of the year.
Only reason why I do that, man, besides enjoying the holiday, I take a little break, man.
I can't even say a break, man, because I work every day, man. I'm working every day, man, to give you all a better experience, to improve everything.
And it's basically just that, you know what I'm saying? Season number four, I got a brand new format. I got brand new stuff coming out.
Like, for example, New Year's Day. I believe that's a Monday.
I'm coming back. I'm bringing back the Sluggish Talk question of the week, you know what I'm saying? That's not going anywhere, you know what I'm saying? I was just waiting to start everything over, like revamp, so to speak, you know what I mean? So you all get to see that online. I'm still doing the classic films. That's coming back Thursday.
Slackest Talk season number four, that's also January 4. That's same time Thursday at 09:00. Different format. I'm adding stuff, man. There's a whole bunch of stuff coming, man. 2024 is going to be the year. As you all know, we celebrating Martin Luther King that week. I plan to have some guests on the show like I did, like we did this year, you know what I'm saying, to share some insight on the man himself. So we still doing that. And then we go rock the February, man. Black History Month. I'm pay homage to those that paved the way for it to be a Slacker Talk podcast, you know what I'm saying? So we doing big things. It's only for improvement, you know what I'm saying, you know what I'm saying? To make a couple of additions, you all know how it is. I talk about business all the time. You got to look for ways to be innovative, you know what I'm saying? And it's the only way to go at the same time as always, man. Something pressing come up in December, we go talk about it, you know what I mean? As always. And I have to say it, I don't want to promise you anything, man, and not deliver, man, but I want to do like a special in December, you know what I'm saying? To kind of like introduce you all maybe to the new format, man, give you all something to look forward to, man, you know what I'm saying? Like check in with you all, tell you all, merry Christmas.
I haven't set a date. If I do it, look out for social media. Look out on my social media page.
I'm announced it ahead of time.
I'm at least announce it like a week ahead of time, you know what I mean? So therefore you all be able to look out for it.
I don't know what day Christmas falls on, but I probably won't do it on Christmas. I'll probably do it like the week of or something like that. It's not going to be a holiday, though, you know what I'm saying? It's not going to be on a holiday, you know what I mean? But I'm going to announce it the week before, give you a time to be ready for it.
And I want to make sure that I tell you, I definitely don't want to leave this out.
Since there's no show, no scheduled show of the Sly Control podcast in the month of December on social media, I will be highlighting my Vision for Kids organization. I'll be shouting out and highlighting those who have birthdays in the month of December.
Since there's no actual show, we're going to celebrate them on social media that way. That's how we do on Vision for Kids, man. Nobody gets left out. Of course, we got the website where they always highlighted all over the website. We still got that going on. So just in case, I'm off in December and I'm off two weeks in July and two weeks in June. But we have shows in June and July, so that's covered. But in December, I highlight those on social media so that way nobody gets left out. So if you like the Slackest Talk podcast, which I know you do, and you look forward to the birthday shout outs, head on over to Facebook at Slackest Talk, Instagram and all that, or the Jason Slack Grand, it's all me. And you'll see the birthdays up there and we go represent like always.
So I ain't going to hold you no further, man. That take care of the announcements. And man, I already know how the Slackest Talk community gets down.
And to be real, to show you how real I am, I haven't looked at these questions yet, you know what I'm saying? What I did was, and I do this a lot, I do this a lot. What I do is as they come in on email or whatever, I'll copy and paste it to a note, you know what I'm saying, without looking at it, you know what I'm saying? And I put all the questions together and I saved it without looking at it. So on this episode, what I just want you all to know, man, that I'll be reading this for the first time and I'll be answering it straight up as we go along, you know what I'm saying? So I can't get more realer than that, you know what I'm saying? I'm challenging myself, you know what I'm saying, another challenge. So I just want to keep that. But I know you all go hit me with the questions I know it's going to be like some slight jabs probably, but I'm ready for it. You know how I get down, man. I got to answer it, answer. I got to answer whatever it is, and it's got to be real. That's the only way I know how to do it. So let's get it in.
So the first question is from Joel, and he asks, what do you think about earlier this week, tiana Taylor coming out and finally speaking on her ex husband?
Man, I heard about that. I heard about that. That's crazy.
First off, man, I want to tell you, JOA, I appreciate you, because by you asking this question, I can tell that you listen to the show because earlier about I can say about what? About a month ago now, I did a show on a couple of married couples that shocked me because they were getting a divorce, you know what I'm saying? I was talking about how they was real and stuff like that, how you don't never hear no problems, and it's shocking that they're getting a divorce, and Iman Shepard and Tiana Taylor was one of those couples.
Yeah, man, it's shocking. First off, it shocked me. Like I just said that they were getting a divorce.
Secondly, the whole time, I think it was like I forgot how long they said it to.
I believe they made ten years at least. If not ten years, it was close to it.
But out of the ten years, you never, ever heard one problem.
You'd never heard one situation realistically talking. We all adults and you know, life, you understand about life. So by no stretch of imagination did I ever think two people were perfect. Yes, they argued. Yes, they did have situations, regardless of whether we saw it or not. But the amazing part was how both of them being like celebrities and people that's known, it's like, shocking how none of it reached the media. None of it got to the outside public, you know what I'm saying? Now, I'm sure their families and stuff knew somebody around here, somebody involved with them knew, but to the general public, it was crooked, you know what I mean? So that surprise, and I honestly thought, I guess this is the third surprise from them, too.
When the news first broke, it was said that they just had differences and they're going to remain friends and stuff like that. So I thought both of them was going to take that to the bank and run, you know what I'm saying? You just wasn't going to hear no more about it. So recently she came out and she said how he's not really there for the kids and stuff like that and all that kind of stuff. And she does everything, and it's like, wow, man, I'm shocked. Now. I don't know trumpet personally. I just know him from being a basketball player, playing with the Knicks and the Cavaliers. And all that, so I don't know him personally. So, I mean, there are people that don't really take care of their kids and stuff like that, so that's not shocking per se, but it's just like, it's kind of shocking that she would come out publicly with that when basically the whole time you was with him, you didn't say anything. I'm not saying she lying, you know what I'm saying? I'm not saying that. I'm just saying, like, man, you went the whole 7810 years without saying anything and now you bash them.
Is this, like, shocking? I thought she would keep that close to the best. I believed it when they said they just had differences and they remain friends and all that, but we'll see.
Is that the end of it, or is there a book or something along the way? But yeah, I'm shocked that she came out publicly with that. Definitely.
Next question.
And, man, you know, I could tell, like, this one is fresh. This is like a new email because this happened a couple of days ago, and it's funny, man. I didn't leave a name with it or nothing like that.
What do you think about Ti and his son having an altercation?
This is funny, man. This is funny. This is funny, man. This is funny. So, yeah, I'm a fan of what I do. So I've seen the video and I heard the news, and here's what happens. Here's what happens, man.
This is what happens. And this is the situation when you have a kid whose father is famous and the child is either trying to follow the child is trying to follow in the father's footsteps, or the kid is seeking to become a celebrity in his own right. This is what always happens, right?
So King TI's son wants to be a rapper. He's trying to be a recording artist, right? Nothing wrong with that. Nothing wrong with that. Nothing wrong with that at all.
Here's why it's tough being a kid when you have a father when you're trying to follow in his footsteps or he's famous, right?
No matter what, you're going to be known probably as his son.
You're going to be known as his son. You're going to always have this stigma of wanting or trying to be better than him or wanting people to believe that you're better than him. So there's a lot of pressure on you out the gate also, right?
And here's the main problem. Here is the main problem.
Even though you're trying to be a rapper like he is, which is nothing wrong with that part, you cannot be him.
I'm going to repeat that. You cannot be him.
And this is for all the kids that's going through the same situation. You have a family member that's famous and you're trying to follow in their footsteps. This is for all the kids, right?
You can't be him. You have to be yourself.
What I mean, by that. And this is the teaching moment here on the Mailbag show, you know what I'm saying? I always take time out to teach. And this is it. This is one of the lessons of today's show, right?
Ti is a rapper. He raps about being in the trap, you know what I'm saying? He was on the streets, you know what I mean? And he sold this and sold that, and he did this and he did that.
That's his story. That's what made him famous. That's what put him on the map.
Now, later on in his career, him and his wife came out with a TV show.
I believe it's The Family Hustle, where all the kids was on that show for everybody to see.
His son King was one of them, right?
So people saw the TV show, you know what I'm saying? That's how people know who King is, you know what I'm saying? They saw the TV show, right?
Here's why you can't be your dad.
People saw the house. They saw y'all going on expensive trips. They seeing all the stuff that's being done, all the stuff that's being bought.
You can't rap about coming up poor.
You understand what I'm saying? You can't rap about being in the track.
People saw this on TV.
You can't have that image of being that because people saw the show. You understand what I'm saying? Now, I'm not bashing. I'm not dissing.
Here's the part that somebody needs to tell him.
Just because you're not from the streets and not from the trap and everything, right?
That doesn't necessarily mean that you're a punk or you can't fight or people should look down on you.
You know what I'm saying?
It's not a bad thing. There's people in the hood that's trying to get out.
You understand what I'm saying? There's nothing like wrong with this, right?
All you have to do you're a recording artist. You create.
The only thing you have to do is create your own lane. You can't have your father's story. You could create your own. And when you create your own, everybody's going to have more respect, and everybody you're going to get more fans that way because you're telling your story. You understand what I'm saying? As opposed to, like, not saying that I'm from the place where your lyrics is a creation. Everything that you say doesn't have to be true because it's an art.
But keep in mind that there are some artists that want people to believe what they saying is true.
You understand? You see the difference? Like, if you're going to tell a story, tell a story.
But if you want people to believe that you live that life, that's something different, and you would have more respect, and it would be even better for you because you could say, you did it your way, you told your story, and you did it on your own. As opposed to people saying, oh, you only got that because of your father.
That's all that is, man. That's all that is.
Then also, when you become a famous rapper and you get on and you start selling records, you would get mad if somebody out there tried to be like you. I'm just saying.
Next question.
And we have our first sports question.
What do you think of James Harden being on the Clippers so well? I mean, this one is simple, man.
I called this one as y'all know, you know, y'all follow basketball. Like, the James Harden Clippers thing is not going good so far.
And if you remember, I told you out the gate that it wouldn't work.
It's just impossible to off. You know, like I said when the trade first went down, everybody on that team wants to shoot, man.
James Harden takes more shots than anybody.
I don't have to tell you nothing about Russell Westbrook shooting, having to have the ball in his hands.
Paul George, he needs the ball.
The only guy that can play off of somebody is Kawhi.
And unfortunately, he's probably the best play out of the four, you know what I mean? He's the one with the championship rings.
He's the one with the experience.
He got two finals.
Like Harden has scoring championships and Westbrook have stats and stuff like that. But as far as knowing what it takes to actually win, they don't match up with, you know, automatically, you know, somebody's going to have to take the seat. Two of them. There's only one basketball.
And not only that with James Harden, man, but it has come to this too.
So this new is not new anymore. But this thing with free agency and creating super teams and stuff like that, he's one that he has worn it out, you know what I'm saying? He started with the Thunder when they had Westbrook and Durant.
He left that.
He teamed up with Westbrook again in Houston.
That didn't work. He went to the Nets and teamed up with Kyrie and Katie. You know what happened there. He just left. And Be, you saw what happened there and it's like there's nowhere else for him to go, man. You know what I'm saying? It wore out.
He has to go to a team where you have nobody else that wants to touch the ball for him to be able to do what he needs to do.
And I don't see that changing. So it is what it is. I never understood why the Clippers would want to make that trade.
I agree that they needed one more player, but he's not it. I was thinking like more of a big man or a stretch four or something like that. Like not another guard, but he wore out. This super team thing ran out. He's on a team with even more shooters.
This is probably a team where this is probably the team that out of all the teams that he played on.
He got the most teammates that want to shoot like ever, you know what I'm saying? Probably ever.
And this is not going to work.
I see them probably maybe just based off talent that should get them in the playoffs, but this not going to work, man. He wore it out.
Should be going to the hall of Fame, though, with all the scoring championships, though. Keep that in mind.
Question for my main man, Julio. One, two, three.
And this is a dig. This is a shot at me.
What happened to the New York Jets and no shade taken. Pretty much my ticket was based off of one player. I'm going to keep it real. And that one player was Aaron Rodgers.
My whole time of being a fan of the jets, we never had a franchise quarterback. We have had some quarterbacks that have had some good years.
Chad Pennington had some good years. Tessa Purdy had a good year.
But outside of that, man, my man Fitzpatrick, he had one good year.
But we never had that franchise quarterback like year after year where you could just plug it in, plug them in and you know that you're getting good play from the position.
And I knew what it was. Aaron Rogers is 40 years old and in sports there's always the idea or the possibility that somebody can get hurt.
And I'm starting to believe that this franchise is cursed. It just so happened that we got to see him for four plays, man.
So in all actuality, I did more talking about him than I did actually seeing him play with the New York Jets uniform on.
And I have to laugh, man, but it's frustrating and this whole thing is falling know, Robert Salah is a good coach. Joe Douglas is a good general manager. I actually think he's probably the best general manager we ever had.
And they have a stubbornness about them where they have favorite players and they like to play those favorite players regardless, they have to get out of that, you know what I'm saying? They have to get out of that and they have to get out of it quick because if they don't, they will get fired, man. And it's sad because I think this whole thing will work. Like, for the first time, the organization as a whole gets along, the pieces in place, everybody get along, and we just don't have the quarterback and the offensive know, two pieces. And then we have to watch people like, minnesota. That just magically trade for Josh Dobbs and automatically you get good quarterback play. Just like that. Like something I've never had my entire life. Minnesota just gets just like that in 1 second.
So it's frustrating.
Hopefully Rogers come back next year. He's already penciled in and hopefully I get to see that. But the way continues, the weight continues.
I think that we cursed, but I'm a straight strong and I'm going to keep it real, man. I'm a fan and I'm in. So whatever happens, happens.
This question is from Jeanetta, and she asked oh, man, that's a good one.
Was Gabrielle Union and Dwayne Wade on the marriage list?
That's a good mean. So what I think you mean by marriage list, you're referring again to the show I did a month ago about people getting a divorce. So the news recently hit that I believe them two are also getting a divorce. And on those two, I wasn't that high on them.
I thought maybe it could work, you know what I'm saying? I came away with the feeling that maybe that was real, but basically I saw that it could go either way, you know what I mean? Because she has a history of, I guess not being able to make it work for some reason, you know what I mean?
Them two wasn't on that list, you know what I'm saying? If I had to rate them, that was one that could go either or should I say like 50 50.
And it's like starting to be some strange things that come out between them two as well. But with them, I wouldn't be surprised at all, you know what I'm saying? It wouldn't shock me. We just have to wait and see what happens next.
And on to the next. This one is from P.
What are your thoughts on Sha Gildress, man? And they talking about Shaw Gildress, the point guard from OKC, man.
Simply put, balling, man. Balling. Balling. He is balling out of this world.
I'm gonna go ahead and give him credit. I know he's a Kentucky cat.
I think that dude is like the best player in the NBA right now. You know what saying? Hands down if you in the bedding, you know what, like hands like that's, your like just balling out. Like OKC is going to be very dangerous.
I forgot the trades that they made, but I think it's something crazy. I think it's like, first off, they got Chet. They got Chet Holmgren back.
He's doing his thing. And they already have a young up and coming team that's like right there on the you know, with Shaw doing his thing, it wouldn't be out of the realm if they made the playoffs this year, you know what I'm saying?
I think they would make a run, you know what saying? Like, they've been young for a while now, so they young, but they got the experience.
And I think it's something crazy, man. I think like the next maybe like four years or something, they got like two first round picks each year. Like, this one making trades. I'm talking about crazy riches. Crazy riches, man.
They can't do nothing but go seriously. But Shaq Gilders, he's balling, man. Like best player in the NBA right now. Easy.
Another sports question. So what is your favorite surprise team so far?
All right, so you didn't say a sport in the question. So I guess that means, like, basketball, baseball, football. That means it's like sports, period.
Man, you put me out there, man. This is a tough one because you didn't break it down in sports.
I could go Texas Rangers. Not because they won the championship, but like, last year, the year before that, they was trash, man.
I'm gonna go with something that's happening right now. I'm gonna say the Detroit Lions. I'm gonna go football and say the Lions like Detroit. Just like I said with OKC. I know it's a different sport, but Detroit is young and up and coming. They got a lot of talent every year in the draft, man, they in the top five. Like I said, you keep getting the top five pick, man, you ain't got no choice but to be good after a while. I mean, it has to add up at some point.
Finally got a good quarterback, you know what I'm saying? Jared Goff not a superstar, but he'll get the job. He'll do the job. That's the most important thing. That's something that I don't have as a Jet fan. So that goes a long way. But I kind of thought that they would be better than they was last year. Like a little better.
I didn't really see this fast, though, like the position they in right now, they in first place. I didn't see that happening so quick. I knew it was coming, but it's know faster than what I thought. So I'm gonna go Detroit Lions on that one.
This question is from Dorothy, and what do you think about Rod Wave stealing lyrics?
Oh, man. Oh, man.
I can't do nothing but laugh at this one. It's not funny.
It's like, sad at the same time, man. Here we go. Here we go.
So the story on this one is first, let me give you the funny story.
My kids are big Rod Wade fans, you know what I'm saying? He's a young cat.
I listen to his music, like, through them.
Admittedly, I haven't bought anything or nothing like that, but I listen to a lot of his songs from them because they play him a lot. My kids are big fans of his and stuff like that.
It's funny. And this is a long time ago, like when he first came out, if I'm not mistaken, I think he'd been out at least, like at least for two years now, maybe.
Like I said, I don't follow him. Good artist, man.
I like the idea that he could rap and sing, man. You know what I'm saying? That's crazy, you know what I'm saying? He do got his own lane and his voice. Like, nobody sounds like him.
You know him right away. You wouldn't get him confused with nobody. And you all know how I feel about that, like the voice and the sound. You all know how I feel about that.
And that's. The most sad thing about it, he has a voice.
He raps and sings. He has his own lane.
He doesn't have to steal music from people, man. He don't have to.
He kind of got the ingredients already right there in front of him. Now. There's nothing wrong with sampling music and borrowing from people. That's a show that's paying homage. That's a show of respect. And the person he borrowed from is Jay Z. And I use the word know, being nice.
So I don't know how old Rod Wave is, but he probably wasn't even born when song Cry by Jay Z came out. He probably wasn't even born. So it's great that you know about that song and everything and you paid homage to it. It shows that you know your history of music and you're a fan and you know what I'm saying?
That's a great thing. People are going to love you for that the rule of sampling, though, right?
It's okay to borrow a line or two.
It's definitely okay to borrow the hook.
It's okay to borrow the beat.
But I guess doing the whole verse is wrong, man. It's a little bit too much. Like, doing the whole verse, like word for word is a little bit too much.
Even if you want to take his words and flip them, we'll go with that.
But doing the whole verse is too much. And on top of that, I'm hearing that you're not paying and I hope that that's not true, you know what I'm saying? I hope that that's not true. I hope that's just people clowning online and stuff like that.
Everybody know like, Jay Z is the biggest businessman in music and that would probably be the last guy that you would want to try to get away with that with, you know what I'm saying? Like, he's going to know. The song that you took got Mary J blige on. It is classic. Everybody knows. So you couldn't have thought that you was going to get away with that.
And I just hope that part is not true, man. But, yeah, there's nothing wrong with sampling music. Nothing wrong with that at all. To show respect, don't use the whole verse. Don't use the whole song. Just kind of like show respect.
Give them credit in the song. Like send a check their way and keep grinding, man. Keep doing your thing. You got a fan base, man. You don't have to do that. And you don't have to do that, man.
You use the right song, you're going to get paid. But just don't use the whole song. Use a part of it and switch it up and make it your own. That's all I got to say about that.
And last question of today is from Nicholas.
Do you really think it's over for Diddy, man?
That's another hilarious one, man. I see the slackest talk community has jokes today.
We just spoke about this last week and since the episode last week came out on the Sockets Talk Podcast, I'm hearing that there's even more people turning up and we spoke about this last week. It's just like basically like repeating myself, man. And I just got a feeling like this is not the last of it, man. But just to repeat from last week, he just needs to find something for himself to do before it's too late, man. Just find something to do, man.
Please find something to do, man.
This has been a great episode, man. I appreciate the questions.
I want to thank each and every one of you all, man, for rocking with me season number three on the Slackest Talk Podcast, you know what I mean? It's a success, you know what I mean? Everything is going well.
I'm aware of the fact that we need more shows. We just having more stuff and more stuff to talk about and it's a great thing.
And man, like I said, man, we right around the corner, man, from season number four, man. I ain't going nowhere.
I hope each and every one of you enjoy your holidays, you know what I'm saying? You all enjoy Christmas. I definitely hope to talk to you all before then, but I want to say it now anyway, you all enjoy your Christmas.
You all love each other, man. You all be safe.
And more importantly for right now, man, so far, so good. I didn't hear anything about any Black Friday nonsense, you know what I'm saying? I told you all, man, I'll be listening out for the streets, man. I told you I'll bring this back up. I didn't hear anything, so that's a good thing, that's a good thing, but keep it up, you know what I'm saying? Y'all be safe. Y'all enjoy your Christmas. And we'll be back again to talk next month and the beginning of season number four right here on the slyest Talk Podcast.
Peace.
