[00:02:47] Speaker D: Film producer Jason Slack. And I'm here with another banger, man.
It's November 16 and we coming up on Thanksgiving time. This keeps moving and moving, man. You all got to get with it man. It's a lot of money to be made out there, man. It's time to get it, you know what I'm saying? 2024 will be here before you know it.
As always, man, it's a blessing to be here. I want to thank each and every one of you all, man, for tuning in every week and checking out the Slackest Talk podcast, man.
You all don't know how that made me feel, man, you know what I'm saying? To have a platform, to be able to have a voice, you know what I mean?
[00:03:35] Speaker C: Talk to your people, talk to your.
[00:03:36] Speaker D: Fans, have people giving feedback and looking forward to what you have to say, it's a blessing. I want to thank you all, and you already know what it is, man. You all could have been anywhere in the world, but you're right here with me. I appreciate that.
And overall, man, I'm just excited, man, I'm excited to get ready to bring in a new year, man.
Overall, it's been a success.
You know what I'm saying?
We keep building here on the slackest talk. I feel like since we first started, we've been getting better and better each and every year. We've been having just numerous stuff to talk about, you know what I'm saying? Episodes and content that we don't even get to all at once, you know what I mean? And I got a mail bag that's full now, you know what I'm saying, that I got to get to, you know what I'm saying, before it gets too late, you know what I'm saying? I know you're looking out for that and just building. I'm excited for the new year because I got a lot of new things in the works, man. A lot of new stuff in the works, man, that you all going to be excited about, man. I'm talking about content. I'm talking about products, new people on the team, new shows, bringing older shows back, you know what I'm saying?
It's a lot, man. They're super excited, man. And I can't wait to see your reaction to it. I know you all love it.
I want to take time out to give a shout out to all my veterans out there that serve this country, as you all know, like Veterans Day was this past Saturday, I always want to shout them out, man.
If we don't do nothing, if there's anything in life that we lack or you feel like we don't pay enough.
[00:05:43] Speaker C: Attention to, let's make sure giving a.
[00:05:46] Speaker D: Shout out to the veterans is not one of them.
[00:05:48] Speaker C: Man.
[00:05:51] Speaker D: Let'S take time out and actually think about it, you know what I'm saying?
You spent like years or a portion.
[00:06:00] Speaker C: Of your life to make sure that.
[00:06:03] Speaker D: Others are safe, you know what I'm saying? To make sure other people can enjoy their life, you know what I'm saying?
[00:06:10] Speaker C: How unselfish is that?
[00:06:12] Speaker D: You know what I'm saying? Everybody is not built for that, you know what I'm saying? You got people that put their lives on the line, you know what I'm saying?
[00:06:20] Speaker C: For others.
[00:06:23] Speaker D: Everybody is not built to do that. Everybody could say they want to do that, you know what I'm saying? But to actually go ahead and do it, you know what I'm saying?
Risk, like having a family, like being away from your loved ones that, you know, for the country, you know what I'm saying? It's nothing but love, man.
[00:06:43] Speaker C: It's nothing for props.
[00:06:44] Speaker D: And if all the things that we forget or don't pay a lot of attention to, let's make sure that's not one of them, man. So shout out to all the veterans. I hope you all enjoyed your day, I hope you all ate well, and I hope you all have the life that you all want, man.
[00:07:01] Speaker C: I appreciate you all shout out to.
[00:07:04] Speaker D: My vision for kids organization, you know what I'm saying? Month of November, we just got one birthday to celebrate. Happy birthday to my man seven. I shouted him out all month long. That's what we do here on the Psychosol podcast. I look forward to coaching you, man, you know what I'm saying? I can't wait till you get older. I put that basketball in your head every time I see you and it's just going to be up from there, man. I can't wait, you know what I'm saying?
[00:07:30] Speaker C: Happy birthday. We love you.
[00:07:32] Speaker D: We hope you enjoyed your party. You had, I think it was two weeks ago. And we waiting, man.
[00:07:38] Speaker C: We waiting.
[00:07:39] Speaker D: We waiting, you know what I'm saying? And wait time moving. It'll be here before you know it. But enjoy your day, enjoy the whole month and shout out to my man Seven, man, we love you.
Real quick before we get into it, and I got another good episode as usual for you all, man. A couple of quick notes, you know what I'm saying, about the show and a couple of quick announcements because we're coming up to the end of the season, we're getting ready to end season.
[00:08:09] Speaker C: Number three, as you all know.
[00:08:11] Speaker D: You know what I'm saying?
I believe we have two episodes left after this. Before I go on break, in the month of December.
This is the tradition here.
All my day ones, you all know in the month of December, I take that off and we come right back. First week of January, we start the new season and we start the new year and we get it popping.
A couple of quick notes.
So I noticed, like all my social media people out there, my slackest talk community, and I love it and I missed it too. Thank you for shouting it out. I meant to make the announcement two weeks ago.
I know you noticed. I haven't been doing the slackest talk question of the week the last couple of weeks. And also I haven't been doing the classic films. And don't worry about it. You know what I'm saying? I know you all enjoy it. I enjoy it too. And don't worry about it. It's not going anywhere.
[00:09:11] Speaker C: It's not.
I just took a little break because.
[00:09:17] Speaker D: As I promised early in the show, I got some brand new surprises. I got a brand new format coming in starting season four, you know what I'm saying? And I wanted to take a break, you know what I'm saying? Because I wanted everything to start at the same exact time, you know what I'm saying? I wanted everything to start together, you know what I mean?
[00:09:43] Speaker C: And once we get there, once we.
[00:09:46] Speaker D: Get there, you're going to see why, you know what I'm sAying? These weeks that we missed the psychosaur question of the week and the classic films.
When January gets here, it's going to more than make up for it, man. I don't want to give it up, you know what I'm saying? I just want you all to see it. I don't want to give it up. But it's definitely going to be new and approved. It's not going anywhere.
[00:10:08] Speaker C: Trust me, that's here to stay.
[00:10:10] Speaker D: I'm a film guy. I'm a film producer. I never run out of movies. Never run out, never run out, never run out. It would never happen, you know what I'm saying? So that's going to return in January.
[00:10:24] Speaker C: At the start of season four.
[00:10:26] Speaker D: That's why I haven't been doing it.
[00:10:28] Speaker C: And there's going to be some new additions.
[00:10:30] Speaker D: There's going to be some new additions and I'm going to announce those additions.
[00:10:36] Speaker C: Season four Thursday, January 4 at 09:00.
[00:10:40] Speaker D: P.M. You know what I'm saying? That's our first episode of new season.
[00:10:45] Speaker C: The Slackest talk after.
[00:10:48] Speaker D: I believe it's November 31 or November 30.
[00:10:53] Speaker C: I believe November 30 is going to.
[00:10:56] Speaker D: Be our last episode this year on the Saga Talk unless something major happens, you know how that works.
[00:11:02] Speaker C: But the 30th of this month is.
[00:11:04] Speaker D: Going to be the last episode of season three.
[00:11:06] Speaker C: And then we come back January 4.
[00:11:09] Speaker D: Where I'll make all the new announcements of the new format, and you'll get to see the new format, you know what I'm saying? And I know you all love it.
As you know, month of January, we celebrate Martin Luther King Week.
I got that going on, and I plan to have some special guests here with that to help me out on that. And then know Black History Month. February is also my birthday, and February is also the best month of the year without a doubt. You know how I feel about that. So that's how we do, man. A couple of program notes. We got two more shows after this, and then we move into season four on January 4. And Slackest talk Question of the week.
[00:11:53] Speaker C: Would be making his rebirth that week.
[00:11:57] Speaker D: And also the classic films along with some new additions. You just got to wait and see what I got lined up. So I just want to hit you with that.
[00:12:06] Speaker C: And now let's get it in.
Now.
[00:12:12] Speaker D: On this episode of the Slackest Talk, I wanted to take time to address my Dream elite organization, you know what I'm saying? Just in case, because I do have new listeners. For those of you all, that's day ones, and you all know me personally.
[00:12:33] Speaker C: And stuff like that.
[00:12:34] Speaker D: You already know about my Dream Elite organization, but you got to keep in mind that we have new listeners. So I got to go over this stuff. I have to do it.
Dream Elite is a basketball organization, AAU basketball organization that I started back in 2020.
We won 13 championships together.
I have roughly 20 plus kids in my organization overall that has played with.
[00:13:07] Speaker C: Me, and some of them are still.
[00:13:10] Speaker D: Going to high school, but for the most part, most of them have went on and graduated, of course, and now.
[00:13:19] Speaker C: Play college basketball at the next level.
So it's bittersweet.
[00:13:26] Speaker D: I love it. At the same time, me being AAU and them being in college, I can't coach them anymore unless I go to.
[00:13:35] Speaker C: The next level, which is not completely out of the question.
[00:13:40] Speaker D: You know what I'm saying?
I won't close the door all the way.
I'm going to admit that I'm not actively at the moment trying, but that door is not shut. You know what I'm saying? That door is not shut. I just want to throw that out there.
But that's what Dream Elite is, a basketball organization. They also are part of my vision for kids organization.
I started that to give kids something to do, something to take them off the street, something to look forward to.
[00:14:14] Speaker C: And also, I did it as far.
[00:14:17] Speaker D: As basketball reasons are concerned, I did it because.
[00:14:24] Speaker C: I wanted to take a group of kids that weren't necessarily, they.
[00:14:33] Speaker D: Weren'T treated as stars on a high school basketball team.
When they played high school basketball, they wasn't treated as stars, but they should have been.
And I know you listening, and you.
[00:14:49] Speaker C: Heard me to say that, well, if.
[00:14:51] Speaker D: They superstars, why are they not treated like superstars or why people don't see them or view them as superstars?
And that's what we are talking about today. We are talking about some of the politics that goes on backstage, not only in basketball, but in the sports world, period.
We're talking about the politics, we're talking about problems, and we're talking about non.
[00:15:20] Speaker C: Basketball stuff that.
[00:15:25] Speaker D: You have to go through to actually become a basketball player.
[00:15:30] Speaker C: So that's what this show is about and to get back.
[00:15:37] Speaker D: That's why I started the program, because.
[00:15:42] Speaker C: Basketball, and it's not just basketball.
[00:15:46] Speaker D: I say basketball because we're talking about Dream Elite and it's a basketball team, but sports, period.
[00:15:51] Speaker C: Not just basketball. Sports, period.
[00:15:54] Speaker D: And this is always something that I.
[00:15:56] Speaker C: Knew, and my man Robert Sola, who's the head coach of the New York jets, came out and he actually said.
[00:16:05] Speaker D: This, and he said it best, and I love him for this.
[00:16:11] Speaker C: Sports does not always depend on talent.
[00:16:22] Speaker D: It's more to it than that.
It's not always talent.
It depends on opportunity.
[00:16:34] Speaker C: Everybody doesn't get the same opportunity all the time, and a lot of big mistakes are made because of it.
Now, what I do to show you.
[00:16:53] Speaker D: How I get down and to show you that it's real between me and.
[00:16:58] Speaker C: My kids and my businesses and everything.
[00:17:04] Speaker D: It'S not just about sports or what kind of contract we got going or what kind of business we going.
When a person is real with me, it's real for life.
[00:17:20] Speaker C: Now, what I do.
[00:17:26] Speaker D: My dream elite.
[00:17:27] Speaker C: Team, of course, they all don't go to one college.
[00:17:32] Speaker D: So we're spread out all over the world.
D one schools, division, tools. Juco, Virginia, North Carolina, Alabama, we spread out all over. So, of course, I can't see them every day.
[00:17:54] Speaker C: I can't be everywhere.
[00:17:56] Speaker D: But what I do is no set.
[00:17:59] Speaker C: Timetable about once every three or four.
[00:18:05] Speaker D: Months, because at the same time, I want them to become men. I don't want to smother them. You know what I'm saying? They don't need a babysitter or anything like that.
I prep them for this about once every three or four months.
I do what you call an entrepreneur check.
Now, I know some of y'all like entrepreneur check?
[00:18:32] Speaker C: What the hell is that?
I'm gonna explain it to you.
[00:18:36] Speaker D: It's one of those slackest talk podcast.
[00:18:38] Speaker C: Things you ever heard, maybe on TV.
[00:18:44] Speaker D: Or maybe you ever had a situation where you didn't see somebody, it might be your neighbor or somebody that live on your block or somebody that you used to work with. You ever heard of a case where.
[00:18:57] Speaker C: You didn't see them for a long.
[00:18:59] Speaker D: Time and it's not like them to disappear, so you become worried about them? So what you do is you call.
[00:19:09] Speaker C: The cops, and the cops come out to their house, and they do what.
[00:19:15] Speaker D: You call a welfare check.
[00:19:17] Speaker C: Now.
[00:19:19] Speaker D: Not the money, not welfare, not the.
[00:19:22] Speaker C: Food stamps, not that kind of welfare check.
The welfare check as in they come to your house and they see if you're okay and make sure you're still.
[00:19:30] Speaker D: Alive and that kind of thing. That's what the other welfare check is. That's the welfare check that I'm talking about.
[00:19:39] Speaker C: Well, me, I don't do welfare checks.
[00:19:46] Speaker D: I do what you call entrepreneur checks.
And what an entrepreneur checks is.
[00:19:53] Speaker C: Check is I check on your status.
[00:20:00] Speaker D: And how you're doing on your road to becoming an entrepreneur.
You understand what I'm saying?
I check every now and then because I prep everybody to have their own.
[00:20:14] Speaker C: Business and run their own company and.
[00:20:16] Speaker D: Become bosses at whatever they do.
I like to, every couple of months, check on the status of their entrepreneurship or their path to becoming an owner or whatever. You know what I'm saying? A wealthy, all that good stuff, I.
[00:20:33] Speaker C: Do a check, and I did a.
[00:20:36] Speaker D: Check this past week, and all of my guys are doing good professionally on the basketball court.
But some of them, I saw a lot that.
[00:20:49] Speaker C: Some of them are struggling with different.
[00:20:53] Speaker D: Types of politics that goes on in basketball backstage, and goes on in sports because there are different kinds and stuff like that. And this is new to them. It's their first time in college, so.
[00:21:08] Speaker C: Certain stuff that they haven't yet seen or heard, and a lot of them.
[00:21:15] Speaker D: Were struggling or kind of had issues with it.
That's what I'm here for. You know what I'm saying? I might not be with you. I might not, can't see you every day. But we got the phone and we.
[00:21:27] Speaker C: Got this podcast, man.
[00:21:28] Speaker D: So we go get into it, right?
So for everybody out there that want to be A basketball player or football player or you want to get yourself involved in any kind of sports, you need to hear this.
[00:21:46] Speaker C: Whatever sport that you play, and this is going to sound crazy to you, especially if you're young.
[00:21:57] Speaker D: There's more to it than being talented.
There's more to it than being good.
[00:22:03] Speaker C: There's more to it than actually playing the sport itself.
There are a lot of things that.
[00:22:11] Speaker D: Go into it on the business side, and unfortunately, we don't think about these things until it happens. We don't understand these things until we get older. But again, that's where I come in at. That's not going to happen with me. I'm going to tell you the real like you're going to be prepared for everything before you get there.
[00:22:34] Speaker C: Right now, I might not have spoke.
[00:22:39] Speaker D: About everything, so I'm going to talk about everything that I can in this episode and I'm going to talk about the issues that I heard in the.
[00:22:49] Speaker C: Last couple of days.
Now I'm just being honest with you.
[00:22:58] Speaker D: They are what you call backstage politics in sports.
It's not what you see on TV all the time.
TV is what you call glammed up. It's made to look a certain type of way.
They hide stuff from you and et.
[00:23:21] Speaker C: Cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
[00:23:23] Speaker D: We don't do that here. On the slackest talk, man, we keep it 100.
[00:23:27] Speaker C: Now, there are coaches that have favorite players, so they get majority of the playing time.
[00:23:38] Speaker D: It's unfortunate, but it happens.
[00:23:43] Speaker C: There are players on the team that because their parents are rich and donate.
[00:23:51] Speaker D: To the school and make sure that.
[00:23:56] Speaker C: The team has X and X amount.
[00:23:59] Speaker D: Of equipment and all that kind of stuff.
[00:24:02] Speaker C: There are parents that are rich, so guess what?
Their kids have to have a certain.
[00:24:08] Speaker D: Amount of time and things of that nature. That's one of them.
[00:24:16] Speaker C: Sometimes you might have teammates that don't get along.
You have teammates that they don't have.
[00:24:29] Speaker D: The ambition and the drive to want.
[00:24:33] Speaker C: To become an NBA player or go to the pro ranks, they don't have that ambition, but they're playing it because their parents have the money or because.
[00:24:47] Speaker D: It'S a hobby or it's a way.
[00:24:49] Speaker C: To keep them off the street.
[00:24:52] Speaker D: Just because somebody is playing something or doing something don't mean they necessarily want to become pro.
[00:24:58] Speaker C: So that's an issue.
[00:25:02] Speaker D: You have coaches that don't get along.
[00:25:06] Speaker C: You have owners that don't really 100%.
[00:25:11] Speaker D: Care about the product or the school or the system or the game.
[00:25:17] Speaker C: You have coaches that don't know the game.
[00:25:23] Speaker D: You have owners that don't know the.
[00:25:25] Speaker C: Game, it might just be a business to them.
[00:25:29] Speaker D: Everybody's not going to have the same.
[00:25:31] Speaker C: Passion and drive that you do is where I'm trying to get at, right?
[00:25:37] Speaker D: So knowing this, right. Because we notice, because we notice and because we're prepared for this, right.
[00:25:48] Speaker C: We have to be mentally strong.
[00:25:51] Speaker D: When you hear somebody say that basketball or sports is just not physical, is also mental, this is what they were talking about. This is what we were talking about.
[00:26:05] Speaker C: You have to be just as strong mentally as you are physically to make it out here in the sports world.
[00:26:12] Speaker D: And in the world, period.
[00:26:14] Speaker C: You have to be.
[00:26:15] Speaker D: If you're not, it's going to kill you.
[00:26:18] Speaker C: Now, here's the part where if you're a day one listener and you listen to all my episodes, you would know that I've covered a lot of this stuff already.
[00:26:35] Speaker D: We covered a lot of this stuff in different episodes.
[00:26:37] Speaker C: So here's the portion of the show where it's time to piece some of those together so we can get an.
[00:26:46] Speaker D: Understanding on this episode.
If you remember a couple of months ago, a couple of episodes back, I.
[00:26:57] Speaker C: Did a show on how to pick.
[00:27:00] Speaker D: The college that you want to go to.
If you recall, I told you that.
[00:27:07] Speaker C: Yo.
[00:27:09] Speaker D: When you pick a school.
[00:27:13] Speaker C: When.
[00:27:14] Speaker D: You pick a school that you want.
[00:27:15] Speaker C: To go to, don't base your decision.
[00:27:19] Speaker D: On only just basketball.
More stuff goes into it.
[00:27:26] Speaker C: For example, your environment.
If you like to hang out, you.
[00:27:33] Speaker D: Like to go to the movies, you like to go bowling, you like to.
[00:27:38] Speaker C: Shoot pool.
[00:27:42] Speaker D: You'Re in the females, man, you like to go on dates and.
[00:27:44] Speaker C: Stuff like that, you might want to pick a school that has all that available to you.
[00:27:55] Speaker D: You know what I'm saying?
You want to pick a school that has all of that stuff nearby.
You understand what I'm saying? If you plan on joining a sorority and you like to party, and every.
[00:28:11] Speaker C: Now and then, the school that you pick has to have that environment. You like to go to church, you want to make sure that the school that you pick has some churches in that area of your beliefs.
[00:28:25] Speaker D: The reason why I said this is.
[00:28:27] Speaker C: Because you're going to be away from.
[00:28:30] Speaker D: Home probably the first time you're going to be faced with a new coach. You're going to be faced with all.
[00:28:36] Speaker C: This stuff, the backstage politics going on.
[00:28:39] Speaker D: In the midst of all this, you're going to need something to ease your mind.
You're going to have to have some.
[00:28:48] Speaker C: Stuff that makes you feel like you're at home.
You're going to need to feel comfortable, your surroundings, have to be there in.
[00:28:57] Speaker D: Order for you to do this.
[00:28:59] Speaker C: What better way to do this than to have the stuff around you that.
[00:29:06] Speaker D: You love doing your whole life?
That's why I came out and we did that episode, and I told you that.
So when you go into stuff on.
[00:29:17] Speaker C: The basketball team, this will help you.
[00:29:22] Speaker D: So that's why we did that.
[00:29:25] Speaker C: If you recall.
[00:29:26] Speaker D: Let's go back to another one.
[00:29:29] Speaker C: I did an episode on telling everybody that when they practice, don't practice the stuff that you know already.
[00:29:42] Speaker D: Don't do stuff easy all the time.
[00:29:46] Speaker C: Do it the hard way.
[00:29:48] Speaker D: It's not supposed to be easy.
[00:29:49] Speaker C: It's supposed to be a struggle.
You know, if you left handed, do everything right handed. Now, practice is.
Practice is for practicing stuff that you.
[00:30:03] Speaker D: Do not know how to do or stuff that you're not so good at.
[00:30:08] Speaker C: That's what practice is for.
[00:30:11] Speaker D: It's for learning stuff that you're not good at. And it's also for this.
[00:30:15] Speaker C: Sharpening the things that you are already good at. That's what practice is about, not the other way around.
[00:30:23] Speaker D: The reason why I told you to do that, to struggle and make sure everything is hard.
[00:30:29] Speaker C: The reason for that is because if you find everything to be hard, right?
[00:30:35] Speaker D: If you find everything to be difficult.
[00:30:38] Speaker C: If you can get past that obstacle.
[00:30:41] Speaker D: And you can still do it, and you can adapt to that environment and.
[00:30:46] Speaker C: Still get comfortable when you get to college and you're faced with certain situations.
[00:30:55] Speaker D: This would ease you a Little bit.
[00:30:57] Speaker C: This will be like something that you've seen already.
You're already used to facing adversity. This is nothing new.
[00:31:06] Speaker D: You see what I'm saying? You see where I'm going?
That's why I did that episode.
And I could keep going and going and going and going and going and going and going. But now you're starting to see that, hey, there's a whole story about the slackest talk episodes.
All these episodes actually not only have.
[00:31:34] Speaker C: A meaning, but they all tie in together and make one complete story.
Kind of like.
[00:31:44] Speaker D: And you go, like how I do this?
[00:31:46] Speaker C: Kind of like a film.
[00:31:51] Speaker D: You have one part.
[00:31:52] Speaker C: It leads to the second part. The second part leads to the third. Kind of like a film, right?
[00:31:59] Speaker D: Aka, I'm a film producer.
[00:32:02] Speaker C: You see what I'm saying?
Now, the first thing that we have.
[00:32:08] Speaker D: To do, the first thing we have.
[00:32:10] Speaker C: To understand is that you being a player or a person, human being, we can only control the things that we can control.
[00:32:28] Speaker D: Can we control how good our teammates are?
[00:32:31] Speaker C: No.
[00:32:32] Speaker D: You can't make another man work out. You can't make a man go to.
[00:32:36] Speaker C: The gym and take 500 jump shots a day.
[00:32:45] Speaker D: It'll be good if he would listen.
[00:32:47] Speaker C: To you, but it's not a guarantee.
[00:32:50] Speaker D: Like I said, you got players on.
[00:32:53] Speaker C: Your team for different reasons.
[00:32:55] Speaker D: You got people on the team just because their parents got money. Everybody's not trying to go pro.
[00:32:59] Speaker C: You got to keep that in mind.
The first thing is all the stuff.
[00:33:08] Speaker D: That was taught here on the slackest.
[00:33:09] Speaker C: Taught podcast, we got to keep that in our back pocket.
[00:33:12] Speaker D: We got to keep that with us.
Once you know all that stuff, once.
[00:33:16] Speaker C: You know all that stuff already, everything.
[00:33:19] Speaker D: Else is going to ease. It's going to ease you a lot. Now, it's not going to solve everything, but it's going to ease a lot.
[00:33:26] Speaker C: You're going to have a better understanding of this.
[00:33:30] Speaker D: That's the first thing.
[00:33:32] Speaker C: Second thing, control the things that you can control.
That's the second thing.
The third thing, right.
The third and here is like something.
[00:33:48] Speaker D: New. I'm going to bring something new to the table here.
[00:33:51] Speaker C: As far as like advice.
The same exact way if you're a basketball player, the same way that you.
[00:34:03] Speaker D: Might go to the gym every day and take 500 jump shots to make sure your jump shot keep getting better or stays sharp or whatever.
The same way you use the shooting machine, the same way you do all.
[00:34:22] Speaker C: Those drills and stuff like that on.
[00:34:24] Speaker D: The basketball court and you're getting yourself in shape physically for the physical part of the game. Everything that takes place on the court.
[00:34:34] Speaker C: The same way you do that, you have to exercise and practice.
You have to exercise and you have to practice mentally.
Start having the mindset of instead of.
[00:34:55] Speaker D: Going into the games, you have to change your approach a little bit. Instead of going into the games and in life thinking that everything is okay and everything is going to work out and everything is going to be perfect.
[00:35:09] Speaker C: Prepare yourself for the worst.
[00:35:12] Speaker D: Let's just pretend like you're the only person on your team that knows how.
[00:35:17] Speaker C: To play basketball, even though that's not true, right?
The reason why I say that is.
[00:35:26] Speaker D: Because if you go out there and what I mean by that, I don't mean go out there and take all the shots. I don't mean to go out there and not play and not pass the ball. I don't mean don't listen to the coach. That's not what I mean by this.
[00:35:45] Speaker C: I mean mentally.
Mentally. Think about this mentally.
[00:35:51] Speaker D: If you go out there and you think that you're the only person on the basketball court on your team that.
[00:35:56] Speaker C: Know how to play, that's going to.
[00:36:00] Speaker D: Mentally make you think that you have to do more than what you normally.
[00:36:04] Speaker C: Do.
[00:36:08] Speaker D: You get what I'm saying.
[00:36:10] Speaker C: Once you do that, once you get.
[00:36:13] Speaker D: In your mind that you have to do more and you have to push.
[00:36:16] Speaker C: Harder, that's going to make up for.
[00:36:20] Speaker D: A lot of the politics and a lot of the stuff that goes on.
[00:36:24] Speaker C: That you have no control over.
Just put in the extra work, work.
[00:36:30] Speaker D: That much harder, do that much more, and let's see where it goes.
[00:36:36] Speaker C: Right?
[00:36:37] Speaker D: Let's just see where it goes.
[00:36:41] Speaker C: If there's a player that's in front.
[00:36:42] Speaker D: Of you that ain't got no business.
[00:36:44] Speaker C: In front of you, let's put in.
[00:36:47] Speaker D: A little bit more work.
[00:36:49] Speaker C: In practice.
[00:36:50] Speaker D: Sometimes you all play against each other.
[00:36:54] Speaker C: Let's hold it on his neck every time we get the chance until the.
[00:37:01] Speaker D: Coaches, the assistant coach and everybody around.
[00:37:05] Speaker C: You knows that it's undeniable that you're the better athlete out there.
[00:37:12] Speaker D: You understand what I'm saying? There's a way that you could do that.
[00:37:16] Speaker C: Like you keep working your work and your hard work and effort does never.
[00:37:23] Speaker D: It never does go unnoticed. There's always somebody out there that notices it. It's always somebody out there that notices it.
If you feel like you have a.
[00:37:36] Speaker C: Coach that don't like you, guess what happens sometime.
[00:37:41] Speaker D: There's other coaches and scouts from other teams in other states out there watching.
[00:37:47] Speaker C: Your game right now.
[00:37:52] Speaker D: They watching what's happening on the court. They seeing the guy in front of.
[00:37:56] Speaker C: You have six turnovers and you have none.
They seeing that you have ten points.
[00:38:02] Speaker D: And the guy in front of you.
[00:38:03] Speaker C: Have two, they watching this and when.
[00:38:08] Speaker D: They watch opportunities become available.
[00:38:16] Speaker C: When you do right, you take care.
[00:38:19] Speaker D: Of yourself and you do everything that you need to do and you work.
[00:38:23] Speaker C: Hard, opportunities for you are going to become available.
[00:38:31] Speaker D: That's whether it's from the school that.
[00:38:33] Speaker C: You'Re at now or another school.
[00:38:39] Speaker D: If you're passionate about the game and.
[00:38:41] Speaker C: What you do, you're going to be willing to make that change.
You playing basketball in Philadelphia when you're on the court now, the fans might be different, the fans might be different.
[00:38:59] Speaker D: But playing basketball in Philly on the court is no different than playing in Virginia or North Carolina or Utah, anything.
You know what I'm saying? It's still basketball at the end of the day.
[00:39:13] Speaker C: Now, if you remember, I made this.
[00:39:16] Speaker D: Statement going back to another episode.
[00:39:19] Speaker C: I told you, you go to the NBA.
[00:39:25] Speaker D: You'Re not going to be playing for the same state that you're in.
[00:39:27] Speaker C: Now, most likely you go to the NBA.
[00:39:32] Speaker D: How many players you know play for one team nowadays?
Relocating should not be a problem to you.
If you're in the profession of playing.
[00:39:45] Speaker C: Basketball or you're in a profession of playing sports, relocation cannot be an issue for you.
[00:39:52] Speaker D: If you relocating there's a problem, you.
[00:39:55] Speaker C: Got the wrong professIon.
There are good coaches out there, there are bad ones.
[00:40:03] Speaker D: There are good people out in the.
[00:40:05] Speaker C: World, there are bad ones.
[00:40:07] Speaker D: It's no different from your everyday life.
Now, you could either do this one or two ways.
You could work hard, like I said just a minute ago, and overcome it.
[00:40:22] Speaker C: Or.
[00:40:27] Speaker D: Another thing that I may have not said to you, and I apologize if I didn't because I definitely should.
[00:40:35] Speaker C: Have said this, whatever college that you decide to go to is not a death sentence.
[00:40:46] Speaker D: It's not a death sentence.
I've had to talk to players, plenty of players that have gotten into situations and stuff like that, and I had to reassure them that it's not a death sentence.
[00:41:00] Speaker C: And what that means is because you picked this school and because you now currently go to this school does not mean that you have to stay at the school.
So there are over 1000 colleges.
[00:41:19] Speaker D: I'm just throwing out a number.
[00:41:20] Speaker C: Like there's what, 1000 colleges out there?
[00:41:29] Speaker D: I don't know, a million. How many different conferences is there?
It's not a death sentence.
[00:41:39] Speaker C: The NCAA, they have what you call a transfer portal, meaning you could transfer.
[00:41:50] Speaker D: To any school of your choosing as.
[00:41:52] Speaker C: Long as you have the credits and.
[00:41:55] Speaker D: As long as the coach and the.
[00:41:56] Speaker C: Basketball organization will accept you.
Now, of course you have to have the grades.
[00:42:03] Speaker D: You already know that that's a given.
But they have a transfer portal, meaning.
[00:42:09] Speaker C: If you transfer, you don't even have.
[00:42:11] Speaker D: To sit out a year now to.
[00:42:12] Speaker C: Go to a different school.
[00:42:14] Speaker D: You transfer and you can play for that new school the next year.
[00:42:18] Speaker C: Take advantage of it.
[00:42:24] Speaker D: The biggest mistake is not making a.
[00:42:27] Speaker C: Mistake because we all make mistakes.
[00:42:31] Speaker D: So the biggest mistake is not making a mistake, but the biggest mistake is not correcting that mistake or doing anything about it.
[00:42:42] Speaker C: Now just remember, you have options.
You have plenty of options as long as you do what you're supposed to do.
[00:42:54] Speaker D: You're passionate about the game, you put in the work, you're respectful, and you.
[00:43:01] Speaker C: Make the relationships and the connects that you need to make.
[00:43:07] Speaker D: There's always somebody watching. There's always somebody watcHing, and there are always opportunities that are going to become available to you.
And I don't mean sometimes, that's always now.
[00:43:26] Speaker C: You make it to the NBA, which.
[00:43:28] Speaker D: I know all of my players will. I'm not saying if, I'm saying when because I know y'all will. Y'all that damn good when y'all make.
[00:43:38] Speaker C: It to the NBA.
There's another thing that I need to tell y'all, and it's about professional owners.
[00:43:51] Speaker D: Because.
[00:43:54] Speaker C: Your teammates, your coaches, your environment.
[00:44:00] Speaker D: It'S not the only thing that you have to battle.
You might have to battle your owner, too, but I'm going to save that for a different episode.
You'll see what I mean. You'll see what I mean. I'm going to save that episode for a later date. And I'm laughing because it's something that.
[00:44:22] Speaker C: I went through and it's something that I continue.
[00:44:26] Speaker D: Like, me being a fan of certain.
[00:44:28] Speaker C: Sports teams is something that I'm still.
[00:44:30] Speaker D: Going through, and it's very frustrating. So we're definitely going to talk about.
[00:44:35] Speaker C: That, but keep grinding.
Get yourself strong. Mentally.
Put in the work.
[00:44:48] Speaker D: Be respectful to people. Meet new people, meet new connects, get new contacts. Remember, always take everything serious because you never know when a scout is there. Remember, they there to do a job. They're not there to be seen. Meaning you don't know who they are. They're not going to be in suit and tie all the time. We talked about that. We talked about that.
Remember that there's always somebody watching.
This is how other opportunities become available to you.
[00:45:23] Speaker C: And.
[00:45:26] Speaker D: A certain special note that I want to end it on.
[00:45:29] Speaker C: Now, I know that I'm your AU coach, and I'm here.
[00:45:39] Speaker D: I give you advice and I do whatever was needed to help you all.
But I want to remind you that I'm not just a film producer. I'm not just a basketball coach.
I'm not just a guy that has a podcast.
I also know a little bit about.
[00:46:05] Speaker C: Marketing people.
[00:46:09] Speaker D: And branding people and getting people noticed and stuff like that.
[00:46:14] Speaker C: So if you have any film or.
[00:46:19] Speaker D: Anything that you want to get out there or any other opportunities that you.
[00:46:24] Speaker C: Want to use, hey, Coach Hank might be the guy for the job, too.
[00:46:32] Speaker D: I'm just throwing that out there.
[00:46:34] Speaker C: But y'all be safe out there.
[00:46:38] Speaker D: I want to continue. I'm going to stay on you like some of y'all don't come on TV or I don't know what station it is. So continue to send me those links. You know what I'm saying? If it's not, you know what I'm saying? I'm be asking. I'm going to be on you. You already know that.
[00:46:58] Speaker C: And after today's show, which I know you all listening, I definitely expect to.
[00:47:06] Speaker D: Get a lot of phone calls from.
[00:47:07] Speaker C: Most of you all anyway.
[00:47:09] Speaker D: But we'll save that for another time. This has been the Slack and talk podcast, aka the Talk of the town. Now, I'm your host, film producer Jason Slack.
[00:47:20] Speaker C: Keep grinding.
[00:47:21] Speaker D: Remember, your first decision is not a death sentence.
Your biggest mistake is not making a mistake, but not doing anything about it.
[00:47:31] Speaker C: As long as you remember those three things, you'll be all right.
But y'all be safe out there, and we'll be back to talk again next week. Peace.
[00:47:47] Speaker B: You're listening to the Slack is Talk.
[00:47:49] Speaker A: Podcast, aka the Talk of the Town.
[00:47:53] Speaker C: Now, find out what's going to happen next.
